Rick Talda Selected as Candidate for Induction into the Order of the Arrow (BSA)
Rick Talda was recently selected by Boy Scout Troop 530, Centerville, Ohio as its candidate for induction into the Order of the Arrow (O/A). O/A is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. The society was created by E. Urner Goodman, with the assistance of Carroll A. Edson, in 1915 as a means of reinforcing the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. O/A’s stated purposes are to:
- Recognize those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and through that recognition cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrants similar recognition;
- Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship;
- Develop leaders with the willingness, character, spirit and ability to advance the ideals and activities of Scouting and our nation; and
- Solidify in himself and others the Scout habit of helpfulness, a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.”
A former Scout himself, Rick has served in a variety of leadership positions for Troop 530. He recently acted as Trek Leader for a group of Scouts and adults on a 9-day backpacking trip to Yellowstone National Park, Montana and Wyoming.
