Wilberding Speaks to Cincinnati Bar Association

On December 3rd Merle Wilberding was in Cincinnati to speak at a CLE program entitled “Famous Political Trials: The Court-Martial of Lieutenant William Calley, Jr.” The program was directed by Howard Sundermann, a retired judge who had spent 30 years on the bench in Cincinnati. It consisted of a film about the background of the My Lai Massacre and the court-martial trial, along with the distribution of certain handouts including a copy of the decision by the Army Court of Military Review, United States v. William L. Calley, Jr., 46 CMR 1131, 1973 CMR LEXIS 843. While he was an Army JAG Captain during the Vietnam War, Merle Wilberding had briefed and argued that case and he was able to share with the audience a number of his personal experiences about the case as well as his comments on the film.
